Summer Research Associate: Help Develop a System Dynamics Model of a Global Supply Chain

Impact Economy is a pioneering impact investing and strategy firm headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, with overseas operations in North and South America. Its team on three continents provides research, knowledge and executive education, strategy advisory, governance and financial services to enable individuals, institutions and companies to participate fully and meaningfully in the current transition to the new paradigm of sustainable capitalism.
Position Description: Impact Economy’s team has a 10+ year track record of generating important widely replicated sector innovations. Currently we are conducting a new study on the textile and garment industry in Bangladesh and beyond. The dire working and safety conditions in the country’s garment and textile cluster were most recently brought to global public attention after a garment factory collapsed in Greater Dhaka in April 2013, killing at least 1,127. Since then, the textile and garment industry has remained in the spotlight. Further action steps in Europe and the US are under consideration to improve the conditions in this industry, foster opportunities for inclusive value creation that benefit the most vulnerable stakeholders, and improve living and environmental conditions while keeping the textile and garment industry in the country generally competitive and rendering it sustainable in the long term. This is a unique opportunity to get engaged a high level, in-depth sector wide research project providing the empirical foundation needed to ground forward-looking action that can make the difference that is now required. The research associate will help design a system dynamics model of the textile and garment supply chain in Bangladesh and beyond. Communication can be through calls and email and the research associate can work from his/her home base and will regularly report to our office in Switzerland to discuss progress.

Required Knowledge, Education and Experience:

  • Experience in designing system dynamics models
  • Sound experience in working with system dynamics modeling software (e.g. Vensim)
  • Ability to take initiative and to drive a project independently
  • Excellent command of English
  • Availability to work during the month of August
  • Team player with a high sense of responsibility
  • Ability to working in a professional environment.

Compensation:
